What to expect
Initial Consultation Call (15+ minutes)
I provide an initial consultation call to understand your/your child’s unique needs, and to ensure that I can appropriately provide the services you are seeking. Rates/fees will also be discussed during this phone call.
Records & Intake Form
Following the initial consultation call, I will ask you to send over any records that would be helpful for me to understand your child, such as school records, 504/IEP, and records from other providers. I will also ask you to complete and return an intake form which I will review before proceeding with the evaluation.
Diagnostic Interview/Intake (1.5 hours)
My goal during this parent-only session is to gather as much information as I can about your child’s history, and understanding your concerns along with any specific issues or behaviors that need to be addressed. This helps ensure that the evaluation is tailored to your child’s/family’s specific needs, questions, and goals. We will also discuss the assessment process, and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions.
Testing / Evaluations (3-4 hours)
The testing day will consist of completing structured activities that assess various areas like intelligence, memory, problem-solving abilities, and/or academic skills. There is no way to study for these activities so simply arrive prepared to try your best. It is very helpful if the person being tested eats beforehand and gets a good night's sleep. We will discuss whether or not to take prescribed medications ahead of time.
If your child is old enough, they might fill out questionnaires about their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This helps me understand your child's perspective on their own experiences. You will be asked to complete questionnaires about your child's behavior, emotional functioning, and how they handle daily activities. This provides valuable insights from someone who knows the child well.
Feedback (1 hour)
Once all testing information is gathered (testing, self/parent/teacher rating forms), a feedback session will be schedule to review the results/conclusions and recommendations from testing. I will provide detailed descriptions and explanations of results. You are encouraged to ask any questions you may have. At this session, you will be provided with a written report that can then be shared with other treating providers, school personnel, etc at your discretion. Infrequently, changes will need to be made to the report following the feedback session, and in such cases, will be mailed directly to you. Children do not need to attend this visit.
